Your going to need another one anyway. Cecil......... | | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 1,820 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 1,820 | DON'T DRILL THE LOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You won't accomplish anything by drilling the lock and the first thing you know, you'll be drilling and the drill will slip and you'll mess up the glove box door. Then you'll have to look for another lock - with a key - and I suggest that won't be any easier than trying this. Find a good - I said GOOD - locksmith! He should be able to open the glove box. And it wouldn't hurt if he was about 68-70 years old. He'll know what to do! Once its open, he should be able to key it to match another key or the ignition key. Just my thoughts on the subject! I went through the same thing. Joe

How much is going to cost to get a locksmith? New lock and key is about $30. Still say use a small drill bit. If you get a small screwdriver and slide it all the way in and slowly back out feeling the tumblers and turn at the same time you should be able to unlock it yourself. After that you can replace the lock or take it in to a locksmith and have a new key mad. Ed | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | I don't have a key for mine either. I use the 6" flexable ruler I keep in my pocket to open it. I can do it in the dark with my eyes closed in about a second or less. Just slip it in the crack centered above the lock and the door drops open.
Or, like said before, poke a hole in the cardboard and rech inside and unlatch it. what does new cardboard cost? And is yours any good to start with? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 66 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 66 | Drill it! Get it over with. You were replacing the lock anyway. Just drill straight, and don't overdose on caffine beforehand. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 | Why replace the lock? It's probably cheaper to have a decent locksmith make a new key. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 128 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 128 | on the bottom of the glove box door there are four phillips screws that mount the hinge to the dash, this holds the glove box in place, remove these, and the door should pull down.then remove your lock from the inside and get it coded! | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 227 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 227 | plenty of good ideas. im sure one will work. thanks guys... this site has turned out to be a wealth of information! got my insurance card yesterday... hope to get it inspected this weekend (after i trace that darn short in the front park/turn light) then register it tuesday! im tired of looking at the truck, im ready to drive it!!! ok... so maybe im not tired of looking at it, but i really do want to drive it! | | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 2,198 Insomniac | | Insomniac Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 2,198 | Seems all I have to do is slam my fist hard on the dash and the glove box pops open... Some adjustment required here.

careful with your ingnition key. i used a spare key on the glovebox lock once and couldn't get it back out. took me about a half hour to convince it to come out. if you only have one key, have a dupe made first before you commit it to the glove box. | | |
