Hello,

According to Chevys of the 40s their Okie bushing supplier has been bought and the new owner is not currently manufacturer these. I'm assuming Jim Carter had the same supplier because their web site lists the Okie bushing as on back order. Does any one know of a source?

I ordered one from them back in May. Girl called and said it may be 1 or 2 months before they had any. So if this is the case, then this sounds like I'm not going to get mine.

If I'm looking at the right part, The Filling Station has some, shown as 'limited supply' for the 1937-39 and 1940-50 parts, while 1951-54 do not have the limited supply note.

I will check the Filling Station out. My other idea was to just install a second original seal and bushing up against the old one. That would would locate it on an unworn section of the drive shaft.

I have never seen the seal area show much wear on the shaft.
The bushing area is the problem.
The Okie puts the new bushing ahead of the old rear bushing on an area never used before.

Right, the seal area is not the problem but if I install a second seal and a second bushing I am in effect doing the same thing that the Okie bushing will do correct? Unless there is a difference in the torque tube ID.

Yes, the ID of the tube changes ahead of the rear bushing.

Sorry for the repeat post. My truck is 1940 1/2 ton.

So, let's see if my logic is correct on this. According to the specs of the Okie bushing for my year truck, which are listed on FS's site, ID and OD of one end is a shade smaller than the ID and OD of the other end, and the smaller end has the seal incorporated in it. This tells me the smaller end would go in first, and you would drive the bushing in until it's flush with the end of the tube. This puts the seal facing the rear end. Which tells me there is no seal at the end of the tube facing the transmission. But there would be no need for a seal there anyway. All we're concerned about is the oil NOT going down the tube to the rear end, and the shaft staying straight and true.

I have not seen the actual bushing, other than the pictures on the sites, so I'm not sure of the design. Once I have it in my hands, I'll know how it goes.

I measured my tube last night, as best I could with a caliper, and after looking at the Okie bushing specs, all should fit snug. I have seen on here before where people had all kinds of problems installing the bushing and having to drive it in with a BFH and all that. I don't mind using a hammer to make it go, but if I have to keep increasing hammer size, something ain't right.

I've been waiting for an okie bushing from Jimmy Carter for half a year. Each time I ask them I hear it will be two more weeks. Can anyone verify if The Filling Station actually has them? Otherwise are we outa luck?

After reading the issue about C of the 40's, I sent an email to them regarding my 2 month old order for one. About 30 minutes later, I got a phone call from them. She confirmed what was said. So I cancelled my backorder and will go with FS I suppose. We'll see how that goes. Must say I was impressed somebody called, and she was very nice about it also. I figure it ain't her fault. I've been in the supply chain now for 37 years, I understand.

I'm thinking there is an opportunity here for someone with a CNC lathe to make some money. Unless the part is patent protected.

I'll order one. Maybe even two.
