Going to try and bolt one on tomorrow. I know they make spacers to deal with offset problems but has anyone put some type of lift kit etc to give extra clearance with the fenders. '37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

Most of those 22" wheels are made for late model trucks, which means the backspace will not be correct for a direct bolt on without some sort of spacer. Lifting and/or trimming of the fenders may also be required, depending on what tire size you're considering. In addition, you will also need to do major brake upgrades, preferably disk brakes with at least a 13" or larger rotor to handle the extra rotating mass, which will also put extra stress on the wheel bearings. Depending on the tire width, power steering would also be a good idea.

It would just be too much hacking to get them under both the front and back fenders let alone trying to get the fronts to turn. I do like the idea of taller tires as I will be running a 235 with original transmission and differential. On my 86 gmc 4x4 I put 33" rubber on, it was the best thing I did to that truck, it was like putting another gear in the transmission. The truck cruised easier was quitter and just better all around. I'll probably just go with a 16" aftermarket wheel. | | |
