There should be a number stamped into the passenger side of the engine block above the starter. There should also be numbers stamped on your frame in front of the steering gear. There should also be a vin tag in the driver side door pillar. By 1961 the engine should have the last digits of the vin number stamped that would match with the frame rail and the door pillar tag.
From 55-2 through 1959 the letter "V" was added as a prefix to the chassis serial number to indicate the truck was supplied with a V8 engine. I don't believe later truck serial numbers identified what engine was supplied.
Also, I've never heard of any Chevrolet truck having the last four didgits of the engine serial numbers match chassis serial numbers...when did that happen???
