This truck was bought brand new by my great-granduncle, which just so happened to live behind my grandparents farm. The truck was used for about 20years as a stock hauling truck. During that 20 years my great-granduncle and his sons up-powered the engine by replacing the original with something bigger (as they said it), and put in a 2-speed vacuum rear axle. At the end of its reign the engine "blew up" As they were fixing it, a new truck came along and this Chevy was relegated to the barn. There it sat with the head off the engine(in the shop), until a chance discussion about old trucks came up with the last remaining son of my great-grand uncle and he mentioned this truck.

So eventually we settled at an agreeable price, we found the head in the shop, and out of the barn it came into my possession. The original bed is still at the farm (on the other truck) and I am going to go back to re-install on this truck.

My plan is get it up and running and driving. Someday much later is a restoration job.

Door art shows Foristell Mo. Is that the area you're in?
Ask any questions in the proper forum and you will get some answers, there is a lot of knowledge here.
If you have the original title, make some copies of it before you retitle it in your name. Missouri DMV will take the title, when you switch it over.

Yes my extended family is in the Foristell, MO area. I am actually in Rolla, MO area.

Actually, I was asked at the DMV in Rolla if I wanted to keep the original title, and I said "YES, PLEASE!!!" They kept the copies, and wrote "Void" on the original and handed it back over to me.


What is even more crazy (at least to me) is that while I was cleaning out the glove box I found the original owners manual too. In it, I think is the first receipt for some service work completed at the dealership.

As for questions, I have been lurking on the site for sometime (the truck discussion with Emmett, last remaining son of George, has been going on for about a year) and have discovered a ton of info already. So yes, this site has been unbelievable help already.

Engine size is a confirmed 261. The small coolant holes in between several cylinders, the head casting number matches to a 261. It was painted yellow (only 261's appear to have been painted yellow). I still haven't uncovered the actual engine casting number but the engine id is C156, so I think the engine was built in early 1956.

Emmett, George's son, remember's putting that engine in to give the truck more power. I haven't determined whether or not it has the bigger carburetor for the 261 or it was the original carb for the earlier engine.

Sounds like you have a good handle on what it is and how to proceed.
The DMV in Jeff City, would not let me keep the title to the one owner 46 I have, 6 or so years ago.
