I swapped out the front cross member on my 1946.5 Chevrolet 3/4ton with a GMC cross member and dropped a 270 in yesterday. Since it brings it out an inch and a half I'm working through the sheet metal problems, as well as moving the radiator forward. I was wondering if there was anyone here that has done this? Looks like I will need to take some of the radiator support out to bring the hood down. Pushing it forward means the hood is too high. And cut the upper baffle back 2 inches or so. But if there is someone that has done this I would love to talk it over before I cut too much.

In my 46 hotrod I had to move the radiator 2 inches forward. I only moved the radiaror not the frame. I made spacers to move it and remount it. I had to modify the sheetmetal piece that is just forward and above the rad. My rad is not a stock rad and is shorter than than standard. I think my 41 gmc has the rad moved forward also. Dave

I put a 270 in my '38. I moved the radiator forward to the front of the cowl. I did have to modify the top piece of sheet metal, but the hood closes without issues. I'm using the stock radiator.

Thanks! I abandoned the extension plate idea and went with the wood spacer and put the radiator inside the support 1 and 1/2 inches forward. It worked perfect!
