i found nos spring for the door hinges on my 48 chev coe put new pins now i can't get them back in the bottom door piller is there a special way i got them out ezy because the spring was broken can anyone help please thank you tony

I don't know what it looks like, but is it possible that a valve spring compressor could help? There are many styles, I'm thinking of this one:

You might be able to rent/borrow from your local parts store.

hello i have it all together but the door hinge wont go in because the spring is sticking out . the sping goe's in one way

I cannot remember which way it is installed, but close (or open it) in a vice. If it is a slight clearance fit, which mine was I used a die grinder to take a small amount of material off the sheet metal.

Please post a picture of the springs you are using. They are NOT the same springs as regular pickup truck springs!

Do you know the part number for the COE door hinge spring?

The Master Parts Catalog lists 3690447 SPRING UNIT for upper door hinge for 1947-2nd through 1955-1st - All trucks

COE door hinge springs have a very odd shape to them. Not at all shaped like a conventional truck of the same years.

I think we used regular door springs on my 54/54 GMC COE (lower hinge on each door)?

I checked the doors a few minutes ago and I have a springs on the bottom hinges. Maybe we used the old/original springs when we put in new pins?

Spanky sent me a photo of the COE lower hinge spring, it is indeed different from the regular cab upper hinge spring.

hello yes the one i am using is the w shape i found them on ebay 1 year ago now i have repined them put the new spring in but cannot get it back in the opening i did remove the old one out

Any one ever get these springs made? Out of 4 hinges only one has one. Looking for 4 if there out there.

I replaced both lower hinge springs on my 1950 Chevy COE with reproduction ordinary Advance Design springs. You can remove the broken spring easily but to replace the new one you need to press out the hinge pin. I had a shop with the proper tools to do it for me. I don't recognize the spring depicted on page one.
