Another early thread to start thinking about.
For our first timers, we have several, hands on "how to" clinics on Saturday. Usually 30 to 45 minutes long.
Last year, if my memory is right, this is what we had.
How to read precision tools.
How to do a double flair on a brake line.
Short discussion on anvils.
HEI mod on a Stovebolt engine.

Reading a thread in the Greasy Spoon, gave me an idea on doing shop safety discussion. What one person may take for granted, someone else may have never thought about the danger.

We will be looking for idea's, thoughts, feedback and volunteers to lead the discussions.

Don't worry, you'll still have time to see the show.

Don

I'll throw this out there again.

I have a 216 I would loan to the seminars the a "patient." It's in unknown condition, but not locked up.

Here's the catch: I doubt I will be able to make it to reunion, so someone passing nearby to SE MO would have to transport. I could possibly meet someone to load within reasonable distance. Tried to work this out with HRL on his way through last year with that big GMC...but the logistics and timing didn't pan out.

I'm a relative newb, so here are some ideas I had for seminars:
* Bottom end inspection/ Plastigauge demo
* Inspecting head/ valve seals, etc.
* Partial or complete teardown.
* Rear seal replacement.
* Gaskets - installing leak-free oil pan/ valve cover.
* If someone feels really ambitious...maybe try to revive the thing. Going off memory, it's relatively complete minus bellhousing, flywheel, and starter...but I have those parts that could be sent along. Don't have a valve cover but could probably scrounge one up.

Let me know if there's interest and we have plenty of time to work out details. Would eventually like to get the engine back but wouldn't be in any big hurry.

Did about the same thing in 2014. Hauled a complete old ford V-8, cherry picker and motor stand.
Also all the tools for teardown and inspection. Micrometers, hone's, ridge reamer, everything for a simulated rebuild.
All under an awning with a big table.
A lot of people got their hands dirty helping out and looking at the parts.
Alvin was a key contributor during the action. In fact, at one point, he took a wrench out of my hand and elbowed me out of the way.
Still have that engine and if there is interest, we can do it again.
Good idea and I'll dwell on it.

Your double flare demo is a top notch demo and you do a really good job explaining how it works.
And with hands on for whoever wants to try it
It does not get any better than that.
I hope to plan out a schedule of seminars and relieve John and Peg of some of what they do, so they can enjoy the Reunion more.
I started to sign off and almost forgot how Pat jumped in to help with the T-shirts and the booth. Thanks Pat! Hope we can count on you this fall.
If the Sisters are there, all the better!

Will you show how to do the seal change out on the 216?
I can bring a cherry picker and motor stand to mount it on.
Just remember, this is in a park and no fluids should get on the ground.
Let me know what your thought are.

2 Ton,

I was hoping that someone would show me how to do it. smile

I don't think Clyde will be making it this year. Hopefully, I still can, though.

Sorry, I thought you were offering to do a demo and it is a great topic.
You do have me thinking about what to bring though.
I have an old 51 that has not been started in at least 15 years and maybe 20. It could make some interesting discussion/demo's, or victim.
Input from others would be welcome, on whether to pursue these thoughts.

Also
Have you posted your question in the Engine Shop area of the Stovebolt Page and have you checked the tech tips for info?

Edit:
The 51 would make a good base for all kinds of demo's.
Compression check, setting points, first start just to name a few. The list could go on and on.
What say everyone, speak up, we want to know.

Good news.
I have been in contact with a guy on the 6066 Truck Club web site. He has a running GMC V-12 on a stand and is planning on bringing it to the Reunion.
One problem is, He needs a trailer to haul it. He is located about 50 miles west of Riverside around Mclouth Kansas. Anybody in that area that can help him out or have any ideas?

My wife & I are both having medical problems so I never can plan anything definite. I may set up a clutch display to show the difference in pressure plates & TO brgs. Seems like this gets asked about often & causes many problems.

There needs to be a clinic or discussion on how to adjust bigbolt brakes. Some don't realize that each shoe needs adjustment and sometimes they get adjusted the wrong direction causing a low pedal. Low pedal makes people think there's air in the system...

Good idea Scott!
It is easy to adjust the brakes in the wrong direction.
I'll start setting up a Clinic schedule by the end of this week and announce the brake discussion at the scheduled time. Then you can lead off the talk.
Will you have a big bolt there, to demo how you do it?

No...I'll be in the car again. If someone had a junk rear diff that we could cut the hub off of, we could at least explain what's going on it there.

I've got plenty of big bolt rears in the salvage yard, we can throw one on a trailer and get it there.

Bumped back up to confirm the clinics.
This is another task I let slide.

Brakes, Scott
Clutch, George
Flare tool, Mike
GMC V-12 startup on a trailer, Bob (we'll make room for him)
If anyone has any old fouled spark plugs, I'll show you how to clean them with a propane torch.

I'm thinking these to start happening by 11am.
Hope to wrap up before 1pm.
It will give folks time to enjoy the show.
Then group picture about 3, followed by the group hug. (can't call it a meeting per Martin's advice).
BBQ dinner after the meeting and tape toss. (heck with it, I'm calling it a meeting)

Let us know your thoughts.

The distributor conversion is founded and presented by Deve.
I'm hoping he shows up to put on another demo.
I picked up a free standing, dry erase whiteboard at an auction today.
We'll plan out an agenda Friday afternoon and post it on there.
Vicki and I should be checking into the Econo Lodge mid afternoon tomorrow.
May make Mongo's JYT (junk yard tour).
But will make the Aldersons BBQ and private museum tour.
