1949 original steering mast with a Turbo 400 automatic transmission. What is everyone using for a gear indicator?

...not using it but maybe one from a 67 or 68?? Check LMC catalog as their illustrations are pretty nice....but watch the price!

Also Lokar has a few remote indicators that you can mount on you're dash or floor.Depends what you're using for a shifter.

I use the 2600000010 from Ididit, Click here. This one sticks onto your column, but it's also for a newer column so might be a different curvature than your stock column.

The original mast seems to be too small in diameter for the above mentioned indicators. Anyone have any pics of a truck interior with hydra-matic column shifter?

From Jim Carter: same size/shape steering column as used in 47-55 small trucks (just a few different holes in the column).

The 1954 truck at joker's link has the standard 54/55 Hydra-Matic shifter (gear-indicator and shift-arm).

Here is a photo from that album that almost shows how the shifter/indicator attaches to the steering column.

Pete,
I'm using the original shifter arm and an internally modified, original shifter box with one arm left on it.

That is exactly the way I would have done it, except that this truck will be driven by my 21 year old son.

My Cousin did that when we Hotrodded his 63 Ford van/pickup, but after driving it for a couple of weeks we bought a B&M shifter from Ebay and installed that.I put a Lokar floor shifter in my 52 and am very happy with the way it looks and works.

show him how to do it. Park: all the way to the top. Reverse: one position down. [plus the truck will back up.] Neutral: self explain. Drive: forward. I don't mean this to be sarcastic.

I guess it turned out that he just didn't like it ,he had the same shift pattern. It was hard to speed shift from 1st to 2nd and than to 3rd.And we know how to shift.
