The AD is a popular choice among many hobbyist. Lots of parts for them and lots of part interchange. The first suggestion is to buy and Assembly Manual which most vendors carry for about $25 bucks and of course a Repair Manual which is also from the same vendors. You can also go here to Keith Hardy's online manuals. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/Don't feel alone. Many of us start with basket cases and many time with baskets full of parts primarily like you. We are here to help.....and the best way to get answers is to post questions in the garage forum most suited for you situation. Engine questions in the Engine Forum and Driveline questions in the Driveline and electrical in the Electrical Forums and others. I'm sure you get the picture..... and speaking of pictures post up a link to some pictures when you can. You may also want to start a thread in the DIY Forum which is a sub forum of the welcome centre. There you can make post as you go along as a lot of us like to follow along on the journey with you. Take some time, get to know the bolt and let us know how we can help.
