I cranked it up and started running it at a mid RPM break-in period as requested by my engine builder. Afterwards, I noticed an exhaust leak on the side of my exhaust at the moving warm up mechanism/device (I don't know what it is called but it helps send heat back to the engine for warm-up). I am wondering if I can eliminate that device or leave it in place and seal off both ends to stop my exhaust leak? It is leaking on the side with the large counterbalance weight device. Leaking where the stem passes through the manifold. Any suggestions would be appreciated!! | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,191 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,191 | You are referring to the heat riser, it's best to keep it, they help in cool damp climates.
If you are mechanically inclined, you can take the flap out, with some work, and put tight fitting bushing in the manifold to help seal the leaks. The flap is welded on the shaft and requires some grinding, it would also will require some welding to put it back. It's about as much work to take it out and plug the holes as it is to fix the holes and repair it for good. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | Bronze/brass bushings are available in common sizes. Definitely fix to operate as designed.
