What is a good rear end to put in a 53 pass. car to change from the torque tube type when putting in a V-8 engine? Will the third member from a 55 up car fit in the housing. Will a Camero or Chevelle rear end be the right width?
Any advice is appreciated.
George

1955 up third member will not fit the earlier housing.

If I can get a chance to talk to him, my neighbor has a '50 Chevy 2 door sedan that's been converted to open drive. I can see what he used. I know it's a GM rear, but I'm not sure what it is out of.

Disregard my prior message,

I forgot I was on the truck board. I come here for information on the stovebolt motors. I put the rear end in a 52 Chevy wagon, not a truck, so there will be a lot of differences.

SORRY, Jim

Sorry about the length of time getting back to this, my neighbor has been on the go quite a bit the last few weeks, plus I've had a few things going on, too. We kept missing each other. I did get up with him last night, though. He used a rear from a '71 Camaro. Said it was about an inch wider than the stock rear from the '50. He also mentioned that the '53s do have a wider rear, though, and that one from a Chevelle or Malibu will work fine, too.

S10 Blazer 4 x 4 works good. You'll need to weld on spring perches.
