She's solid and running, but stopping is an issue right now... Anybody here know where to find pump number? Nameplate was lost long ago. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 3,587 Moderator | | Moderator Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 3,587 | Welcome 52vff! This area of the StoveBolt group does not get used very much. There are not that many that take on the job of maintaining a Fire truck. There will be several chime in here when they check in.

First oders of business is to figure out what is wrong with the brakes, leaking somewhere, etc. Or just start at the master cylinder, rebuild or replace, and keep going until you have rebuilt or replaced everything in the brake system so it is all up to snuff!

Got the parking brake redone and reinstalled, and was able to drive slowly a block to our Firehall to wash. Congrats on getting one thing checked off the list! It's all about the baby steps! Let alone a FireBolt. Check out the ODSS threads, to keep up with that group. They are a great bunch and several own Fire trucks.

I do have two questions though. First, ODDS threads are? And the second is completely fire related being fire related nameplates and data plates. Anybody know where to find? One great thing about firebolts though.... They're history is often well documented. I will, hopefully today be able to put up an original, when new pic of my truck too! | | | | | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 5,066 Authorized Pest | | Authorized Pest Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 5,066 | Love to see more fire and rescue equipment! The brakes on our '65 GMC Firetruck aren't working so good lately. Here is the ODSS -- The Old Dominion Stovebolt Society. It's the group from the MD, DC and VA area that get together regularly and they host the annual Homecoming here at Stovebolt HQ (in MD). Actually, if anything is going on at HQ, there are usually several if not plenty of ODSS members around. You are right about the history of the fire equipment. We were able to get a lot about our's and even got to talk to Mr. Darley about the pump when we called looking for parts! He even had the file on OUR pump! Gadzooks! That was a big deal to us!! We have enough rescue equipment, it's been fun to have the Firebolt Department. We even have Firebolt Hoo-ya! Too much fun. Welcome to the site. Peggy M

Goal this year is to be on the road, hopefully by mid May. For now not a restoration as much as fix to drive. Its in overall good shape, paint even looks decent, though Sun faded, when wet. As of now I am a loss as where to acquire the parts, any suggestions to good vendors would be appreciated.
The C60 has a 283, 5 speed, 2 speed rear end and 21,000 GVW with 9:00 x 20 tires than need replacing.
When I find out how to put a picture of it on I will. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 3,587 Moderator | | Moderator Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 3,587 | Welcome to the group C60. You will find a lot of info here about your truck. Motor, chassis and drivetrain questions will get more responses in the big bolt area. Fire and fire truck related questions should be posted here. You'll need about four posts to have full access to the site. So, post away with more info about your truck and start taking pictures.

V = V8 engine 6M = 6400H Series (Note, H = Heavy Duty) 59 = 1959 O = Oakland Plant 105823 = unit number starting at 100001 The "C" you use to discribe your truck C60 wasn't commonly used until 1960.
