Just wanted to join and say hi. I have a 63 GMC Fleetside short bed, big window truck. Always wanted one of these body styles and now I have one! However I do have a slight problem. my problem is with the VIN#, I didn't know where to find it on the cab (I do now) when I bought it. I registered it with the title I got from the seller. Now after doing some research on the truck and about the VIN plate, which is missing by the way, now i searched the numbers stampt on the front left frame rail and thats totally diffrent from what's on the title! so to recap;

My title says 1963 GMC,

but the VIN on the title belongs to a 61 GMC longbed.

The mumbers stamped on the frame come back to a 60 Suburban!

Any ideas????

Welcome to the site. Too bad the numbers don't match, we see that here from time to time. It's important to get this figured out before you do much with it. Actually, we dealt with this quite recently. Maybe you can find the thread, otherwise ask in the general truck forum. Good luck.

One63GMC, welcome to the Stovebolt where old Chevy's and GMC's rule. Sorry to hear about your situation. Patience is in order here...big time! Since this is just the Welcome Centre Leo's advice is well taken. Things can be rectified and I'm sure there is more than one way to get it done. You will get many different opinions so soak it up, take it all in, ask advice from some good folks down at the DMV and be patient. I'd be careful who you ask, how much info is enough...how much is to much and proceed with care.

Folks may suggest a bunch of things. Some legal, some maybe not so legal so be forewarned. The Stovebolt, in general, does not advocate anything dishonest so if anyone takes it to that point it will be deleted.

I'm sure the RIGHT folks at the DOT will help you get through this. If you find those that try to help to be ignorant, rude or un-professional in helping, find another person. Even myself has a couple things that I'd do but MIGHT be construed to be a bit "shady" so I'll refrain and be a good boy. It's easy to take care of one of the problems. Think about it

California laws vary GREATLY from B.C. laws. Follow Ca. laws only, and you should be fine.
The vehicle isn't in B.C or S.C. and youre throwing money away trying to register it there.
In So.Cal the best(least hassle) dmv to go is Sanger.

It sounds like you've got a mixmaster rig that's been assembled from a pile of parts. It might be necessary to do a little research on previous owners and see if you can trace things back to whomever did the assembly. When I shipped a military Jeep to California from Okinawa in the mid-1970's, all the paperwork got lost along the way and I had to post a bond with the DMV equal to the appraised value of the vehicle for 3 years before I could get a clear title. Be polite and patient, but very persistent when dealing with the bureaucrats- - - -some of them seem to have an IQ in the single digits, and an attitude to match!
