Im trying to find out what the wording was on the L O F glass bug on original door glass out of early fifty's if any body has any. Driver and passenger side also to see witch side is readable from inside or out.

Here is an old post on L-O-F glass.
Their E-Z-Eye tinted glass was an option starting in 1953.

I think I was told that the marking were readable from the outside (so there was right side glass and left side glass).

As long as the glass was flat Chevrolet only needed to have one side made (fits both sides), so the LOF would be facing the same way. One reads from the inside and the other from the outside.

Once they started using curved glass I believe Tim is right, readable from the outside.

Do you think they would of gone as far as facing the outside on one side of vehicle or just wherever.

This is what I have so far. On the windshield has The word Plate ,on the vent glass and on center rear has the word Sheet, I don't have any old glass for the Doors. Both of mine are PPG Glass and I know one of them had be replaced. I'm thing they would of been the sheet glass. On the five window cabs the corner glass said Solid

As Mike posted, they marked the glass on the same side/location no matter which side they were installed.

So, they did not have to think which side faced which way, they just installed it.

I am not near my Suburban, but I have the E-Z-Eye (an L-O-F brand) markings and they are supposedly the original orientation.

David, Plate and Sheet refer to the glass thickness. If I remember right, Plate was 1/4", sheet was 3/16". Plate was made of two pieces of 1/8", Sheet had one 1/8" and one 1/16". The glass had the lamination in between. This is where the problem with new door glasses dragging in the run channels comes from, Safety Sheet is a thing of the past. Your curved quarter glasses are tempered, hence "Solid" (not laminated). Just some useless info from an old glass guy. John

Tim, thanks for the 2nd link. I'd forgot about the different lamination thickness, but as soon as I read it, it came back. .015" isn't much, but cutting the lamination on sheet on a cold day was sure easier than .030! Ah. the good old days. John
