on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,518 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,518 | Hello all, I just got my shop complete and got my 53 in the garage and on the lift for the first time since buying it last March. I plan on keeping her as original as I reasonably can with exceptions to changes because of safety like dual master cylinder and radial tires and so on. I'm starting to write down casting and date code numbers on the engine/trans/rear and other things. The truck has green glass in it and I'm thinking could be original. There seems to be some voodoo to figuring out the date codes, has anyone got the lists on glass? The following is glass found dated coded on my truck: Driver's side windshield AS-?-EE, Rear AS-2-SE, Left Quarter AS-2-VE, Left Wing AS-2-VE, Pass Wing AS-2-VE, Right Quarter AS-2-CE. Any help would be appreciated. LOF is a brand now owned by Pilkington Glass. I can check my 54 Suburban this afternoon. It had original E-Z-Eye glass. I forget if it had both the L-O-F marking and the E-Z-Eye marking. There were also window codes and date codes (as shown on yours). Here is very little information I found on an Internet search - oddly, I found a post I made in 2002 (on classicparts.com): AS-1 xx (AS-1 = windshield, I think) AS-2 xx (AS-2 = other glass, I think)
The xx is a date code.I'll also post information about finding a place who can make the original markings. Can you post photos of your markings? Or, mail photos to me and I will post them: [email protected] | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,198 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,198 | The AS-1 and AS-2 are types of glass, not date codes. Windshields use different glass the side windows, so they require different markings. The EE, VE, CE are likely the date codes. E could be 5 since its the fifth letter, not sure how the others figure in. http://www.carwindshields.info/windshieldmarkingsJoe | | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,518 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,518 | I'll get some pics up, hopefully the glare won't be an issue. I do know from restoring a corvette years ago that alpha and numeric don't jibe, for instance the E doesn't correlate to 5th month or year like a casing date on a block or head so forth, if only it were that easy. Thanks for the responses. Steve

E-Z-EYE glass was a factory option for 1953 and 1954/55 trucks. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | I do not know if this code information , from another forum is correct. Does your code show E-Z-EYE and/or L-O-F I do not know is this information is correct, but it shows up in different fora: AS-1 Laminated glass, windshield only AS-2 Laminated or tempered glass, side/rear only | | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,518 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,518 | Yes it is E-Z-Eye with LOF. Doesn't look like it is a 53 code going by your literature, possible late 52 then. I was able to get one pic, the rest the markings were too faded to get a good pic without glare from the flash. Thanks for checking. http://www.nloc.net/photopost/data/2692/medium/P1180334.JPG This is the drivers wing

VIN says it is the 5223 truck from the Oakland plant. Other factory option besides tinted glass is side mounted spare. Truck had a thick undercoat on it and the sheet metal looks beautiful after I get the dirt and flake the undercoat off of it. 1953 Chevrolet 3100261 cu inch, sm420, 3.55 rear, torque tube still, omaha orange, still 6 volt, RPO green glass, side carrier spare, all done In the DITY GalleryVideo of the 261 running1964 GMC 1000305 Big Block V6, sm420, the next cab off restoration

Also pulled the rear cover and drained the old diff oil out, it was needing that. Counted pinion and ring gear teeth it is a 4.11. So all my running gear is original
