Your original probably had Briggs and Stratton on it but the one shown doesn't have enough wear for a 68 year old key. The GM marked on is currently available. | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 457 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 457 | One should be the door key, the other the ignition key. Same number for the same truck.

How would anyone know if it is an ignition key, a door lock key, or a glove box lock key? Wouldn't they all be the same pattern, if made for matching locks? Weren't the original locks matching (same keys)? | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 734 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 734 | These ignition keys have the same cut pattern, yet the blanks are different. I find it quirky that I have two different blanks for my ignition; would have thought that the key blanks would be the same. | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 49 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 49 | I just received key blanks for my '51 and the groves are on the opposite side of the key. The key I have for my ignition has the groves on the right side. Just my luck. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | These ignition keys have the same cut pattern, yet the blanks are different. There is a good possibility that one key or the other key or both keys are not the original keys that originally came with the truck? | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 734 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 734 | Both ignition keys work, and that is all that really matters. I am just fussing over something that is rather trivial. | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,383 Ex Hall Monitor | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,383 | The B10 & B11 blanks were used back then. The hex head B10 was used for the ignition & doors. The round head B11 was used as the trunk & glove box key on cars. I don't know if the B11 was used on the trucks. B10 & B11 blanks.

It operates the ignition and both doors. My glove box has no key slot. | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,442 Bolter | Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,442 | I seem to recall from my days of making keys (40+ years ago) that there were several Briggs & Stratton key blanks that had roughly the same grooves cut in them. If we were out of the correct (according to the book) blank we would just grab a different but compatible blank and cut the key. Customer didn't care just as long as the key worked. A little polishing with the wire wheel or a slight grind here or there with the cutter and all was well.

I just brought home a 55 first series C3100 and only got one set of keys. Everywhere I went ( hardware stores, Big Box) - they all said they do not have a blank, and don't think they can get one -
Anyplace you can recommend to get a blank would be appreciated
thanks

Mike B has a good suggestion. Reread post a few back, seems like trucks used B10 blanks.

Are you sure you have an original ignition switch? | | | | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 1,516 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 1,516 | 1933 - 1966 used that blank for ignition. The b-11 is for trunks, etc. ACE Hardware,,Orchard Supply,,Home Depot. I get all my bulk blanks from www.ekeys.com and make copies of my master key set. | | | | Joined: Dec 2015 Posts: 56 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2015 Posts: 56 | Hi All thanks for the good advise, and to your question Cletis, I am not 100% certain I have an original ignition switch, but the one key I have looks much like to B10 blanks I see
How would I check for original switch on this truck?
