I,m in the process of installing dual exhaust with glasspacks on my 49 3600 with 261 engine. Is there any advantage to using an X pipe in the system as far as torque, horsepower or sound/ Dave V

On the six cylinder, about all you will get is mellowed sound. The firing order is not right for the x-pipe do what it does to the V-8's. It will take out some of the harshness of the six cylinder exhaust notes, so that it's an advantage I guess.

Joining the exhaust pipes in any way will reduce or eliminate the scavenging effect of having a split manifold. The front/rear alternating of exhaust pulses is really the only reason for having duals on an inline six, other than the eye candy appeal of the system. Ditto for dual or triple carbs!

Thanks for the replies. I guess there is no need for it then. DaveV
