Looking for ideas on what column to use in my truck. Would like to have tilt, automatic, and turn signals. Wanting to keep the key on the dash. Thanks for any help in advance.

A lot depends on how much $ you want to spend. IDIDIT and Flaming River have what you need. Several Salvage Yard columns will serve your purpose and I'm sure someone will chime in with specifics shortly. Welcome to the "Bolt" from a fellow Okie.

WOW registered in 2009 and this is your first post. Must be some kind of record.

Fireman: I have a 1948 Chevy 3100 and grafted a salvage yard mid 70's GM column to it. Anything you do will require some creative engineering. But I'd thought I'd address your intent to still use the key on the dash: I have my column mounted ignition switch wired in series to the dash switch, giving me a kind of added amount of security. I therefore use two ignition keys in my two ignition switches, each key is different.

For my 52 Panel I used an automatic column out of a 67 pickup. (67-72 same I think)

I wanted an automatic column
One that was slim with out the key on the column so I could keep the key in the original place.
I wanted the diameter of the column to match my old one.
I wanted one I didn't have to cut.

I took it apart, replace the bearings and it works great with my 700R4 transmission. I used lokar linkage,no problems but NO tilt.

If you Must have TILT then look for a column out of a Chevy Van. Mid 80's I THINK. I'm sure someone else will remember the years.
They are about 30-31" and generally, depending on your application do not have to be cut.

The group in Central Oklahoma gets together once in a while just to chew the fat. If your close by, would you like to be included in the invite?

There are a lot of those old '70s vans setting around our fair State.

I have a tilt column shift out of an older gm van. Have the lokar linkage too. Can send pics. My phone is 724-433-9015. I was going to use it but went for new instead. If I was to use I'd cut splines off and grind end to fit DD u joint. It needs the pointer also its like 20 bucks I think. Let me know.
