Trying to figure out how I'm going to approach a project. I have cab and most of the sheet metal for a 1938 1/2 ton. Frame and engine bad. Is it possible to find just a frame and engine? Do I have to/should I just buy a donor truck? Any ideas what a good, original frame with running original engine should cost me?

How rust free is your existing sheet metal and do you have it all? If you don't have it all or it's not good, look for a better truck and use yours as the parts donor...or look into puting your sheet metal on something like an S-10 chassis if original doesn't matter to you.

A friend of mine put a 39 body on an S10 4x4 chassis and it looks pretty stock driving by or at a distance. 4x4, 4.3 V6, auto trans, and A C, pretty cool daily driver. Lots of donors out there. Scott

Look this up on the H.A.M.B. (Definitive S-10 Frame Swap Vehicle List) it might give you some help

Indy is right on the Lists on the HAMB but if you are going for a swap I suggest you just measure your wheel base and google it .. you will find all the vehicles with the same wheelbase and you may find some interesting ,and inexpensive possibilities

If going original a complete parts vehicle is the way to go , you may also find that the donor is better than what you have .

Also a Lot of the ""S-10 swap kits" listed in the HAMB posts are no longer in existence
