I have a 1952 Carryall, Chevy that needs some work on the window furring tips....Well, i bought some of Jim Carter's furring strips because the windows were making a frightful noise when driving down the road. The window itself looks like it will work just fine, once i trim off some of the excess (Jim Carter's strip is about 9 " too long.

But the vertical strip that attaches to the vertical divider between the rollup window and the wing vent- looks like the original ones are riveted to the wing vent assembly - anybody have any suggestions?

Best Regards

Lisa

Vertical strips were riveted.

Post links to the parts you bought, and then people will know what advice to offer.

...if you are talking about what I think you are I glued mine two or three years ago and they are doing just fine.
Back when I ordered the rivets, and the setting tool, what I got was a joke and I'd have had to have a ten pound hammer to set the rivets. I'm glad I glued them.

Glue, brilliant.
I've been without for about three years because of the rivet kit and punch tool. 10 pound hammer and three hands.

Here are the links to the Jim Carter parts i am trying to install
Window Channel - http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/cart/product.asp?prodid=WI203&i=10946||||| and it is part number WI203

And the vertical strip - this is a Steele Rubber part -http://www.steelerubber.com/rigid-run-channel-60-0073-58

The window channel looks like it will fit, but i'm having trouble getting the vertical strip to fit properly. I can see U-channel of thin metal, riveted to the wing vent divider. Thank you so much!!!

on my 59, my glass guy sold me some 2" wide stucky back velcro (fuzzy side). He said to fold it in half, put it in, then run the window up and down a couple times to make sure it is glued in all the way. Once in, roll the window down and trim excess off with a razor blade. That was 15 years ago.... still fine!

I am also planning on replacing the wing vent windows - LMC Truck has a very nice looking, inexpensive replacement for the entire glass, frame, rubber, etc. Here is the link... Has anyone used this part and do you have feedback?

LMC Truck vent window

The part number is 38-6366 and looks like a relatively easy job

Thank you!

Hi everyone - any suggestions? I have no furring strips in the windows and am wondering what to use - is there a better vendor out there than Jim Carter? They don't seem to fit very well - Thanks!
