My burb is titled a 41, body features lead me to believe it is a 46 and the engine casting should be from a 47 or 48 235. I am reasonably sure it is a 46 that is titled a 41 but my question is could the engine be original if the casting is from a 47. # is 3835309. This is a local vehicle and has all of its original stuff including the seats. All my research and so sign of anyone changing the motor. Could this be?

what are the body differences between 41 and 46? thought they were the same - seems the VIN should have an indication of the year: 41=AK/42=BK/44=CK/46=DP according to my books I think - the engine could have been rebuilt by the original owner way back? also the optional 235 was first offered for bigger trucks in 41, maybe the original purchaser special ordered it that way

info I see sez burb was only available w/ clamshells in 41 - have those or panel doors?

I don't know, I just get more confused the more I do. The burb does have clamshells. It also has an extra bracket that helps hold the inner fender to the firewall. I was told that was a sign that it was newer than 41. There was something else too but I can't remember what it was. I think that when the PO had it titled the vin wasn't legible so that it's not a reliable source.
It's possible the motor was special ordered. Would that have the same casting #s?
I guess this "hunting" is part of the fun.

If its a '46 this truck is 59 years old. Even if its been parked in a barn for half that time its still difficult to say with certainty that the motor has not been replaced somewhere along the line.

And if the job was done by a good mechanic there might not be any evidence of the swap.

The more original and complete the truck is otherwise, the more likely anyone working on the motor would be to attemp to maintain the original appearance.

Just my two cents...

How bout the parking lights on top of the headlight buckets? They are different from 41 to 46....I've got a pic of the difference around here somewhere...TSheridan does too in his photo album...

Yep, Just checked my Chevs of the 40s cat. and mine are the 46 style. The plate does have a vin, some stamped and some engraved of
14DP-J7205. It looks like the #s got fuzzy and someone tried to preserve them. So what I'm getting is the 235 could be original but not likely?
It really doesn't matter to me except for ordering parts and such.
