I just purchased this beautiful 1940 GMC Pickup on ebay a week ago. http://www.ebay.com/itm/151906540735

When the auto transport guys were going through Montana on their way out to me in Snohomish, Washington the hood blew off. The entire hood assembly (4 pieces?)

They tried for two days to find it and could not.

So I’m desperately searching for the following:

Any and all parts to the hood assembly. The top, sides, latches, badges, hinges etc.

An exploded diagram of this area of the truck or at least a list of parts and part numbers

I’m not even sure what the model number is on this truck or even if there was more than one model made that year!

Any help or contact information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards and Happy New Year Stove Bolters!

Welcome Paul, man, that sucks. I suppose the auto transport company is liable, right? Beautiful truck too.Did the windshield or any other part of the truck get damaged? When I was transporting my panel as I was restoring it, I had both doors fly open on it (truck was backed onto trailer) I did some damage but didn't lose anything.
Paul, you'll get more response if this was posted in another forum, maybe the general truck forum. You may even find parts in the 'swap meet' section. Best of luck and happy new year.

Welcome to the STovebolt, Paul. Losing those body parts are a bummer. There are several years that will fit your truck so be sure to watch E-bay/Craiglist and as Leo suggested be sure to put an ad in the Parts Wanted forum here on the bolt.

....and you might call JimCarter, a vendor for old truck parts as he has a supply of used doors/fenders/hoods and other stuff outside his place in Missouri. He's been around a long time and may have just what you need.... and other bolters in your area will see your post and may be able to help out.

Leo gives good advice, as this is the Welcome Center. The REAL wrenching goes on in the shop forums. Good luck and we're all here to help.

Welcome to the Bolt!
Sorry to hear about your truck. That really sucks!
As mentioned, post your parts request in the swap meet forum. If you put it in General Truck he'll just delete it.

You paid $24,000 for this vehicle ...

Why did you put it on an open trailer ?

If the hood is not securely fastened - that can happen.

Another reason to transport a vehicle enclosed ...

Paul,

Check out this listing on Craigslist Detroit "1940 GMC Pickup Truck Restoration Needed - $2995 (Highland, MI)"

I went to look at this to see if the rear fenders would work for my 1940 Chevy, they were too rough but the entire front clip to the truck was in the guy's garage and in good condition. I don't know why he doesn't have photos of the best parts? He wasn't willing to separate them either but the parts you need are there.

John
