I have a 61 Apache and I replaced the points with the metronix electronic unit. I must have knocked the timing out as the motor now pings. I found there is no timing tab on the front of the motor. What do I do to re-set the timing to eliminate the pinging?

Thanks
john

John,

Probably a Pertronix unit?

Nonetheless, the timing mark/needle can be viewed on the the forward face of the clutch housing above the starter.

You could also just loosen and rotate the distributer in either/both directions, little by little until the ping disappears..

Or, buy a vacuum gauge and use this technique.
