Hey all, I was wondering if the '59 had the foot starter as did the '58. I'm seeing trucks for sale without it. Is it a common modification to remove it?

1959 was the last year that had a foot-starter as standard equipment on manual transmission trucks.

In 1960, all 235/261 engines/transmissions came with solenoid starter.

Well, I just found a manual online and this is what it says:

"Starter Control. Ignition key starting is provided on Forward Control models, automatic transmission equipped models and all V-8 models. A starter pedal located near the center of the toe board to the right of the accelerator pedal is used on other truck models."
So there you go.

The 6 cyl equipped 1959 truck used the foot stomp stater method with a 2 position ignition switch (on/off). The V8 trucks did not use that method and they used a 3 position ignition switch (off/on/start).
