Have a 1965 C60 truck with the 409 motor and was wondering if anyone had tried to put an automatic transmission behind one of these. Maybe a 350 or 400 turbo. Seemed fairly straightforward to me until I got to the starter which bolts into the bellhousing. Have already considered that I may be losing my mind but just curious as to whether it can be done and what parts would be needed. I know some of the cars came with powerglides but didn't want to go that way. Thanks.

You'd have a hard time getting a 350 AT to hold up to the weight/torque/load. The 400 may hold up with no additional load in your truck? These guys would be the ones to ask:

Thanks Distributorguy. Will give them a try. The truck's working days are over and now it's just a big toy for me to fiddle with (and do questionable things to).

"We" had a fleet of Chevy Dually Crew-Cabs,all equipped with 454/Turbo 400's. They were constantly loaded with various roofing equipment,and pulled tandem-axle,dual-wheeled 32 foot trailers. They consistently hauled loads,up to 40,000 (Combined Vehicle Cargo Weight),from Iowa to the East Coast. The trucks did surprisingly well,with routine maintenance!
