I believe the first year for trucks was 1960. With that said I also believe the 1958 truck 235's had the mounting bosses cast on their block even though they weren't used. So to answer your question, the AD trucks used front motor mounts and side bell housing mounts. If you want to install a automatic trans you will need a newer block that has side mounts and a crossmember for the trans tail mount or an old automatic trans (Hydromatic or Powerglide) that have bell housing mounts. Maybe someone else has a different way to get around this issue that I'm not aware of. The cast iron Powerglide was offered behind a 235 but if using any other you will need an adapter which can be drilled and tapped for side mounts. The Powerglide had a cast iron adapter between the I6 engine and trans but maybe others could tell if it would be strong enough to hold mounts. I used a Bendsten's adapter behind my 37 Buick straight 8 to take a 2004R OD automatic and then used 55-57 Chevy auto trans bell housing mounts bolted to the steel adapter. The Buick and 235 Chevy are very similar engines in design---just longer.

I had a friend once that wanted to use one. I though it would be
a very unique swap, even though it would take some serious shoe
horning. Finding one without a busted cylinder wall turned out
to be a challenge.
