Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 130 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 130 | hello everyone. i have a 55 first series 1/2 ton that has a bracket on the pickup box that i can't identify. it is located on the front edge of the drivers side rail between the box and the cab. it looks as though it could hold a small rod or pole of some kind[3/8"or so] that would point outward horizontal to the to rail. it appears to be a factory item because of the way it is fastened to the corner. is it a part of the spare wheel assembly? does anyone know what it could be?

This was used to give the bed side extra stiffness at the top by joining it with the front panel at the very top. This part is often missing when buying a used side mount spare unit. I have made many. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 130 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 130 | thanks for the explanation metalman. i'll bet that it is overlooked quite often.
