Well, I approached them and asked what color names their paint has, as my 1951 Chevy is Seacrest green. They said, go get your truck and drive it over here, too. Others with green trucks saw what was going on and drove over, also. We ended up with a spontaneous collection of green trucks, and people started gathering around and taking photos. (The GMC near the middle looks sort of white but is really a light green that is washed out in the late afternoon sun). This is the kind of cool stuff that happens - particularly THERE at KC. The nine years we had gone, it amazed us each year it was something ... spontaneous. (Remember last year was Jim Carter's total excitement about seeing three AD 1-tons in the same place!)
When Scott Ward (48bigtrucks) first told us about the event 11 years ago, he said it was "the place for Stovebolters to be" ... and it sure does seem so.
The event really did evolve over the years. The first few years, I think we most ate at a restaurant. John and I flew in. Gosh one year, it was so hectic here at the farm (I bet this was after the arrival of the grandchildren), I made our plane reservations flying from Dulles. We went after rush hour and stayed at a hotel and took the shuttle to the airport, so we wouldn't have to pay a high price for long term parking. Well, our return flight on Sunday was to National in DC!! Oh man. I felt like such a doofus. We had to rent a car to go back to Dulles to get our car (hour drive); then another two hours home.
Lesson: slow down; double check.
Anyway ... sorry to digress on the green truck. That pix will be on the index page as soon as I get to it.

Since my truck can't compete with the perfect concourse quality trucks that were there, I left all the "authentic" bugs that were all over the front to validate the distance driven.
