| | | | Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 1,747 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 1,747 | R and R the 4 speed in the 52 1/2 ton last weekend. Had a bearing in the trans go bad. Lots of metal in the fluid. Put in a new clutch kit from NAPA. Nice kit had everything and an alignment tool as well. Replacement trans was clean and looked to be in good shape. So in it went and off I go running errands and grinning like the idiot that just got his toy back. six days later, I hear a whirring noise as the clutch is depressed. Stopped at the light waiting my turn. It comes and goes. I think the new throw out bearing is not so good. Packaging said the bearing was lubed and sealed, so I only put a bit of grease on the shaft and the release arm tits. Did I forget something or did I just get a bad bearing? I really do not want to pull the torque tube apart and slide the tranny back out. I will of course, but I don't want to repeat any mistakes if I don't need to.

I have a brand new one on my work bench which is so bad it osculates when you turn it by hand! It is not loose, and I cannot understand how it could have been made that way by accident.
The Chinese government currently has all of my personal information (due to sloppy US federal bureaucrats), so maybe the Chinese flagged my order for a bad throw out bearing.

I do have proper free play. It has gone from occasional to every time I push the clutch pedal in and the noise level has increased greatly. Very embarrassing at stoplights. I put it neutral when rolling up to a light. People in the next lane often say nice truck or give a thumbs up until I put it in gear and they hear the screech.
Going to have to fix it soon but not ready to wrestle the 4 speed by myself. It was so easy to install on a bare frame.
