My name is Darcy from Altus, Oklahoma. About a month ago I picked up my first project truck which is a 1958 GMC 100 step side with a 305 under the hood and a three on the tree. I have been looking at and wanting this old truck for almost 20 years but didn't have the time or money for a project like this and I don't think the owner was ready to sell her anyway. I would go to the car shows every year and get the itch to get a project truck but would talk myself out of it every time because early on it was lack of money and in the last few years it was lack of time. This year with a little coaxing and support from my beautiful fiancé I finally decided to hit the owner up about it and he sold it to me for a steal at $1200. So, I aired up the tires and towed it the 30 miles home and have started the process of getting it road worthy in time to take it to Summers Last Blast in Vernon, TX in a couple of weeks before I tear it down for a proper restore this winter.

Great looking truck. Glad your patience and persistence paid off.

Great buy. You will have to make the trip up to El Reno for next years Smalltown Weekend. It's a smaller friendlier version of Vernon, Tx. That will give you some incentive to get the work done. The 305 is a good reliable engine but you won't pass many gas stations. Clean her up and drive her awhile while you plan just what you want to do. Be sure to ask lots of questions in the appropriate forums and continue sharing photos.

Darcy, looks like you have TWO keepers. The truck and the young lady smile Always tell her your building it for HER and things will move along a lot faster!

Welcoeme to the bolt. There is a good following here for the GMC. I've always loved the front look of your truck. Folks here will help, just ask questions in the garage forums as Martin suggested and your on your way.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

Thanks guys for the words of encouragement. The old truck has been sitting since 1986 so I definitely have my work cut out for me and the forums looks like a great source of information.

Martin, is the El Reno Smalltown Weekend always on the first weekend of June? Thanks for the invite. I will have to check it out this coming year.

Achipmunk, there is no doubt that I have two keepers here. I love the old truck and the young lady is just as anxious to get her back on the road as I am.

Yes, the first FULL weekend in June. Sometimes a couple of the Texas Connection come up and a few of the OKC gang too. Most car/truck events are on Saturday. Hope you and your truck can make it.
