For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 86 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 86 | I have a 65c10 swb. ITs been at the painters now for 2 years. He says my hood and bed fenders have a lot of bodywork to do. Since he works only works part time on vehicles,he can't give me a finished timeline. Would it pay to buy the replacement hood and fenders, and get it painted sooner, or just wait it out? | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 1,901 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 1,901 | Oh wait it out for sure. It's only been two years and he isn't even half way. You'll get it back in no time... As in there is No Time you'll ever get it back except maybe the present. So what if you might expect him to take a while and at even a measly $20/HR (thats IS how much your paying him right?) how long can it take? More than the price of a new hood and fenders plus a year or two? Those panels might run you $1500 and as fast as he's going you wouldn't have to come up with the bread till there's a new president and who knows... He might be so rich he'll pay the guy off for you. Sorry just offering a different perspective... It's really all up to you.
Give me ambiguity or give me something else

I've seen MANY of the same situations your in and rarely does one ever walk away happy....and after spending lots of money. Yes, I'd buy new fenders and if the guy can't give you a finish time schedule get your truck and move on. Be sure you do not give him any money. NEVER never, pay for more work than has been done......just my opinion and the rule I live by after seeing so many "sad" situations. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 86 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 86 | Thanks guys.I thought of taking it to someone else, but I am told that it would take about a year because of the projects they now have. Do you know of where to find the bed fenders? Mine are warped because of me a rookie attemping to fill in the molding holes. This is why he says there will be a lot of bodywork hours to repair them. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | You may want to contact a fellow bolter here in S.C. that goes by the handle Lugnutz. PM him and ask if he knows. He is doing a 65 and has meticulously documented a lot of things as well as buy and sell some stuff. He may have your answer your looking for. Shoot him a PM. | | |
