I need another chrome grill for my 49, the grill that I just put in was a Taiwan special which looked pretty good but the fit was terrible. Well the truck has ZERO miles on it and I was hauling it to a friend's shop to have the exhaust made, on the way a deer came out of the ditch and nailed our 2015 GMC then did a flip and got the 49 on the trailer ! ! ! { hood, grill, fender, bumper. So I am looking for a better quality and fit grill this time so let me know what you have had good luck with, is GOODMARK that much better or just more expensive??

I can't tell the difference between Goodmark and other reproductions. I am inclined to think that people associate Goodmark with Goodwrench and think it is worth more money. I don't have any Chevs, all GMC, but I think a rechromed original is a lot better than any reproduction.

I've heard "decent" reports on Goodmark but its been mostly on the later model stuff like Camaro's and Nova's.
"Perhaps" they have a little better quality than Tiawan specials but then, where does Goodmark get theirs?

Got mine for the 52 panel back in "09 from Classic Chevrolet Parts. Cost $349 including shipping. I can see what looks like "dust" in the very crease of it but it has held up pretty good. It WAS a bit hard to install but after working with it two days I finally left everything fairly loose and got it in. I drive mine a fair amount and on trips so its no stranger to rain and dirt. I guess you could say I'm satisfied compared to FINDING a nice original and the cost to chrome it.

Isn't Goodmark made off-shore? I thought their Camaro bodies were put together from pieces stamped in Taiwan. I do not know of any company in the USA that makes body panels except Mark-K with their truck boxes.
As to chroming I found a mint painted grille at a swap meet. The local chrome shop wanted close to $1000 to chrome it citing taxes and HAZMAT fees. They $100 each to plate those small step plates on the running board. Plus taxes. taxes and fees.

I think they're all pretty much the same these days regardless of where you buy them.

Sedgewick pretty much nailed it with his comment,good quality chrome costs!

Alvin mentions he paid $349 for a complete grill,bear in mind that's the WHOLE grill assembly including shipping,remove the vendors mark up/profit,initial production costs etc,basically that doesn't leave a whole lot for decent quality chromework.
My tail-lites and front turn signal bezels are testament to that too,in the space of 18 months they're little more than rusty ROC appendages attached to my truck....

You pays your money.......

I didn't think that there were any real QUALITY replacement parts available for these trucks I just hoped that I could find one that was slightly better. You mentioned MARK-K boxes/// I bought a complete box from them and the quality and workmanship is excellent to say the least, to bad they don't make more parts as it would be a no-brainer who to buy from ! ! !

Yeah Bill,aftermarket quality is a subject that comes up all too frequently,not just here but in many other marques forums.
I used to build VWs and frankly it wasn't much better.

You can see why many folks prefer NOS items where possible and consequently pay top dollar for them.

It seems to me some vendors are just a business out to make a few bucks rather than care about actual quality of fit and finish these days.

Sad but true.....
