Pete, I know some guys who do NOT run them and some that do. I've never heard either of them complain.
I think PirateJack.net recommends a 10 lb residual for the rear and a 2lb for the front running the set up you have.

I am running all drum on my panel but I still put a 10lb residual on the line to the rear. Its suppose to help overcome the springs tension as it keeps some pressure there. I have not had any problems in 2 years and I can stop the panel on a dime and give you 9 cent change!

(Is the steering box going to work for you?)

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

Hey Pete

I am dumb as dirt when it comes to this stuff but I went to a pre-engineered package I got from Classic car and Performance (CPP) out of the left coast...

http://www.classicperform.com/Store/1947_59_Trucks/4954CBK-6HK.htm

Here is the link to the kit I bought...quality seems ok...roller bears are Chinese tho..I have not run my truck yet but it was basically a bolt in deal...I am good wrench turner but not a good thinker of new thoughts...saves way more time and problems if you buy these kits...guys on the phones seem pretty decent too..

My smelly old 2 cents...
