Have read many times over the years that this 54-55 1st series cross member swap is just the ticket when swapping to a later motor(sloped mounts)in an earlier truck, yes-no?

Looking to swap a 250/292 with an automatic in to the old 3600, any ideas would be appreciated.

Hy JiMerit Boltr#43, yes the crossmember swap allows the proper positioning of the newer engines when using the newer standard transmission bellhousing. I don't think the swap would be of any benefit if you are going to use any automatic transmission other that the four speed Hydramatic, hope that helps.

I made the swap in my '50 3600 but I was going back with the SM420. It is a pretty easy swap, you end up reaming the holes a touch and it fits perfect. I will say this the later mounts have a lot less vibration than the stock 47-53 style.

Thanks guys, that's the one Brad. I was sure some automatics used these sloped type mounts as well? I want to do this swap without loosing the strength that this cross member provides. Maybe I'm overthinking this deal as usual.

The 52 bell housing should bolt right up to the 54 or later engine so you do not have chance the rear engine mount.

Correct Walt, but I'm looking to install the next series 250-292ci engine which used the V8 bellhousing and that will bolt only to a 54 and later crossmember.
