The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Interiors Prewar Steering Wheel ID Help, Please!

Early in my search for a proper steering wheel for my 39, I picked up this wheel. I thought it was correct for 39/40 but I don't think so now. The casting looks identical, but the core is different. The hub is much deeper that the wheels I have picked up since then. It also has no splines, only a keyway. Can anyone positively ID this wheel? I'd like to sell it but I want to be sure I know what it's for because I don't want the buyer to go through the same thing I am now.

Looks like a 46 pickup steering wheel.
I am not an "expert" but maybe comparing to one from that year will head you down a good path.

I have what I believe is a 41 (please correct me if I'm wrong) wheel, and it is very different from this type. You can see it in the following link. Notice it has a recess in the bottom for the cast collar hub that fits there, as well as the three large holes for the collar prongs.

Your first set of pictures looks just like what goes on my '37. I don't know what other vehicles it would fit. I am just learning this stuff myself.
The last picture is just like my '42, which came off a '41, so if would fit those two years. Probably same up to early '47 (art deco) but again don't know for sure.

Thanks for that... I have my suspicions that it'd be for approximately 31-38... Hopefully someone will know for sure. It's in need of relatively minimal restoration work compared to most of these wheels, so someone is going to be happy to get it.

As far as the second wheel, I think there is a technical difference in the 41 wheel and the 42-46 wheels, but supposedly they do interchange. From the few pictures I have seen, the reproductions are based on the later style wheel which has a deeper steel hub than the one in my second link.
