New to this site, I have a 51 Chevy 2 ton with a dump bed that my construction company uses as a trash truck. The 1953 235ci just is not cutting it at 8000 ft of elevation in the Colorado Mountains. I just picked up a 350 and The plan is to swap engines but leave the existing transmission. The clutch, tranny, e-brake and PTO all work fine and I don't want to mess with that end of It. I have been told by some friends that If I go with a pre 1964 bellhousing that it is a clean swap. Does anyone know if the trans can stay in the same position without modifying the firewall (does the distributor fit?), and I have been reading about moving the steering box slightly in lighter duty trucks, I assume it will be tighter on this truck. Has anybody out there done this swap? Chris

Chris, since this is the welcome Centre I'm moving your post to the BIG BOLT Forum as your truck is a 2 ton and perhaps the guys there can help you.
Since your doing some modifications you may find some answers in the Hi Po Forum as well. I'm sure there are guys who can help.

Welcome to the Stovebolt and good luck on your project.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
