Sure, that would look good! I'm reworking the bed on my '66 C60. Actually, I'm working on it today, LOL....The angled stake sides on your truck would look good. I've seen that before, always neat. Are you going to attach a tool box? I'm thinking of fabricating a tool box to attach under the bed behind the drivers side. Keep us posted on your progress. Looks like you have a good start already

I have some time off before I start my new job and I'm GOING to get some work done on her.My plan is to get the wiring harness in,street legal,and possibly started on the bed. We'll see how far I get. I'll put up some fresh pictures as I go.

Well,,,, It's been a long time since I've posted. Started working on the truck again figured I'd get back on the forum to keep me enthused. I'll get some pics up of the progress later today.

The plan is for a shortened stock-ish build. Everytime I started working on her I kept kicking myself in the butt for taking shortcuts. So apart she came! Took her to a buddies shop and stripped her down. Now she just a roller, body and drivetrain are out.

Great looking truck! Looks pretty solid, Im about ready to start working on my truck again also.

Got the pics uploaded. Scheduled to sandblast and paint the frame next weekend. Motor is at home and needs to be cleaned up and re-sealed. I'm trying to work out a deal with a friend to trade paint and body for some fab work on his fj40, we'll see?

Got some more bits and pieces off, cleaned up a couple of bad welds, she's on jack stands and waiting to be blasted tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to the turnaround at the halfway point, where pieces start to go back together!

She's done being blasted, painting next weekend!

It took a little longer to get her painted than planned. Got the rolling chassis done and back to the house. Put some more pics of the progress up, keeps me going. It's nice to be past the halfway point,now anything that goes on can be finished. Not just something to make it work for now.

You will find renewed enthusiasm once you start bolting parts back on. Great looking truck.

Thanks Paul. A buddy of mine has a three axle version of your truck that he's starting to work on. I've seen pictures of those with dually fronts,,, pretty cool!

Got the cab back home this weekend, time to make some more progress.

That would be a G.M.C. CCKW. (Affectionately called a "Deuce and a Half".I believe they made up the majority of the transport rigs,during WW-2. Studebaker US-6's were used mostly on the "Eastern Front". I don't think Chevrolet produced a Tandem-axle truck,(2-1/2 ton),until 1956.

She's going back together now. Motor all sealed up and painted, back in a freshly painted rolling chassis. That's the good news,now for the bad news. The guy I wanted to use for the paint and body quoted 10-12k! Sooo, THAT'S not going to happen. This is just going to be a good-ol truck, can't justify paying that much to paint it. Then it slowed down at work so I can't spend the $1000 to have it all slurry blasted and put into primer right now either.

That's not going to stop me! It will be running and driving this summer! I put the cab and doors back on. Now I plan on doing my own bodywork and will paint as well. Going to use Tractor paint to keep the cost down. I will get some new pics of the progress up,but now I need to get back out to get some more done.

Sounds to me like the painter either didn't need or want the work. Time for another estimate! Cool truck though. JP

I painted mine with tractor paint,(and primer), as well. It looked good,for about the first two weeks,or so. Then it started to dull. I used Van Sickle's Premium Alkyd-based paint,which is supposed to be durable in exposed weather conditions. If you use Van Sickle,I'd suggest applying at least one coat of clear,as well. This may help insure a quality shine. It does not suggest this on the application instructions,though. The price is right-about $40.00/gallon. It took about 1/2 a gallon,(primer,and paint),to cover the cab,hood,and fenders. 3 coats.

I like the way Miss Betty looks right now. I'm a sucker for patina (even though it's probably cliché by now).

I like what you've done with the frame and mechanicals. The bed you found will look just right once it's done. I think she'd be awful nice with the patina cab on the painted frame. Maybe renew the interior paint to original color and call it good.

Whatever you decide, she's a peach. One of my favorite trucks on this site. Love the deco cabovers. The GMCs are even a little cooler than the Chevrolets in my opinion.

Wet willie, thanks for the input on the paint. I'll look in to clearing it, or at least testing the paint to see if I need to. I'm using Magic from TSC. They not only have it in quarts and gallons,but also matching spray cans which makes it easy for touch ups and small jobs.

JW51,I also like the patina look. The main reason for paint is I want to keep the body in good shape,and make it better than it is. I have areas that will become issues without attention. I also have an OD Green Fj40 and military trailer and am OD'd out.

Gotcha. Was Miss Betty a military vehicle? I was thinking that was just the faded GMC color. Understand that a little OD goes a long way.

I'm also a sucker for FJ40s. So if you get sick of either one of those rigs....look me up.

I think she sat on a base for a long while? OD Green over Orange/Red? and black fenders. The cab metal appears to be galvanized and the paint is separating from it in large pieces. To save the metal it needs to be stripped and repaired. It sure would suck to have something this old and cool rust back in to the earth because I was lazy!

Doing some good karma work for a neighbor kid is starting to pay off. He will be coming over to do some sanding on my truck,while I work on his. Also made friends with his Grandpa,who took my whole front end and sandblasted it! Woo Hoo!
I hammered out the big dents in all the pieces scuffed it all up and got it in primer today. Making big steps now. Makes me Happy,happy,happy!

Got back to her last weekend and made some progress. Had to re-sand the front after all the ash and rain hit the bare metal. Then got it primed and painted. Starting to put big pieces back on now.I can walk through the garage again!
