Hello Panel and Burb people,
Looking for some input to add some stability to the rear of my 1949 3100 panel. My idea is to purchase a round shock mount kit (loose the lever shocks) add adjustable coil over shocks and a rear sway bar kit. Would anyone have some experience in this area.
Thanks
DiGeM

I'm sure others do as well as myself. My 52 would "roll" pretty bad. At SLOW speeds it was OK but it can get scary getting off an interstate, or on a road where the residential driveways make a "hump" in the road.
I put a sway bar under mine and wow, what a difference.

Got my sway bar kit from CPP in 2013. Part # CP169 for $186. Its simply to mount as it attaches to the axle housing and to the chassis. Sorry I didn't take any pictures when I put it on.
Note: I'm trying to remember why....gas tank or a shock mount, but I did have to mount it about 1" off center but it still works grrreat. Man what a difference.

Alvin,

Do you have an original torque-tube rear end?

Alvin has open drive line.
I believe he has the original rearend housing with a 3:90 pumpkin out of a 1955.2-1962 1/2 ton chevy truck and an automatic transmission. If I remember correctly.

Tim is correct. Open driveline, with the original housing and a pumpkin installed from a 59. Tim, mid last year, I changed the 3.90 to a 3.38 ring and pinion from Yukon. It has a dang whine in it about 45mph. Yukon sent me another new one but it was worse than the first. I gave up and put the first 3.38 back in it.
I just don't drive 45 and I'm ok smile

Okeedookee!
The rear sway bar is installed. I used the CP169 kit, fitment was ok. I used the supplied flat plates between the axle U bolts and sway bar D grommets. The supplied angle brackets would not work, so I fabricated my own. I did a one inch offset to the right, the fit between gas tank and leaf spring was tight but was doable. The new angle brackets were seven and one half inches tall and five inches for the left, three inches for the right. The end result is very satisfactory, eliminated most of the rear body roll I was experiencing. Next will be a rear shock conversion.
Yes, I have an open the drive line. 261 cubic inch engine, 3 speed on the column with B/W overdrive, and a 55 to 59 era HO33 rear diff.
Thanks again to all you Stovebolt people for your support and interest.
