First click right starts the switch on High, then Med then far right is Low. Seems like the first click should be Low - Med -High like most. Does anyone else have this problem? I cannot change the internals on the switch and I think another switch in order. Stress on the squirrel cage is pretty dramatic with a loud “thunk” when started. Any ideas would be appreciated but I will not be ordering this same type of switch if this is "normal" Thanks Kevin - 1952 Chev 235.

Based on my limited experience of 4 trucks, I think your switch is normal. I don't know if you can find one to your liking, or not.

It might go from high to low just to provide enough power to get the fan moving?

Admittedly on my '38 a heater was optional (dealer installed) and many folks went with a rheostat type of switch, as did I. My rheostat starts on high then gradually goes to low as the knob is turned. My defroster switch is the paddle type with two fixed speeds and it starts on high as well.
