It is known knowlege that trailer wheels will fit our 8 lug hubs while clearing tie rod ends. However after searching last two years I had difficulty finding non-spoked trailer wheels or any that looked like the originals.

Finally I hit the Jack Pot.

My uncle had a older trailer which had the wheels I wanted. So I tried to fit them and it worked.

I hope some body can use this info. I know that wheels on this application is a contant problem. Thought I would share my good find.

You did a great job of documenting this. Two of my rims are these very ones. I also used bulge nuts because the holes are larger than the originals. You may have noticed that they have baby moons on that site which look similar to the original hubcaps. I thought that the moons with a GMC transfer might look pretty authentic.

I can get 235/85R16 LR-E and 7.50-16LR-D in highway tread for your steers. . .

I can also get 235/85R16 LR-E and 7.50-16LR-D in snow grip's and Mud traction's for your drives. . .

Thanks for the advice on tires, hopefully that want be a issue. Im thinking that this trucks days of driving amongst inclement conditions are likely over.
I'm gonna hold off on the new tires anyways, because the truck is still years from driving on the road and I don't want them obtaining bad spots or becoming dry rotten before I really need them. I will be adding used cheeaappp tires that atleast hold air instead. This way I can move Loy around the yard.

I had a problem with rims also for my 1950 3600. A parts guy at my local parts store just happens to be restoring a 50 also. He has white wagon wheels on his. Ordered the same looks good

At long last I have new radial tires on my 1950, 3604. All the suspension and brakes are stock on mine. Quite a difference in the ride, the bad vibrations in the front end are gone and with the windows down I can’t here any tire noise. I had to settle on 9.50R 16.5 for the rear and 8.75R 16.5 for the fronts. A little fat but their tubeless radials all around at last.
The wheels are 16.5’s from a 1980 C20 and fit the rear with plenty of clearance. The fronts needed a 1.25” spacer/adapter, which provides close to an inch clearance. I probably could have gotten away with a 1” spacer/adaptor but any less wouldn’t hide the stock lugs.
The Clips are from the venders and needed a 3/8” stand off to grab the stock hubcaps. They look durn near stock and you have to get up close to tell their not. Here’s a few picks that show them on the truck: http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2513755820098611668CgdlbK

Becareful running wheel spacers, most drag-strips want allow them. Just incase you do plan on racing your truck. haha

A update to a couple inquires:

Sorry for the delayed report. You can check out my latest pictures on Webshots and that's where my project has paused. A truck frame that can move under its own power.

The wheels are working fine. Although, I went with a different tire purchased only at NTB (National Tire and Battery) which was only about 82 dollars a piece and were tall and skinny like I wanted. While I was there, I got them to go ahead and mount them. The "kids" working there seem to have alot of trouble balancing them but still got the job done. Unfortunately I have not driven the truck on the road at higher speeds so can not give any more information about how well their doing.

One suggestion would be to call the the trailer rim place and
1. Have somebody visually verify all the rims are there.
Afraid if one rim came from different warehouse it might be different.
2. Ask what do they look like. (I did not want spoked)

Otherwise as stated they fit; barely cleared the tie rod and seem to work just fine.

I went to the local trailer shop 6Roblees. They have the rims, but said the weight rating was less than truck rims 3600 pounds I think it was on the trailer rim. I don't know the weight rating of a truck rim. Also the trailer rims come in two lug hole sizes so make sure you get the right one. I have dug through many piles of used rims and have found two that work on the front I don't know what they were on originally. At one time I found a dodge rim that fit perfectly, too bad it was bent. Are these trailer rims safe for driving off road?

thanks for the info.

i recently mounted a set of oem trailer wheels and radial tires to match. i got them through my local mom and pop wheel and tire outfit. they gave me a great price. they also let me do all the labor of mounting the tires on the rims and balancing them. that saved me a few extra $.

anyway, they work but the clearance is very tight. so tight that the wheel weights on the inside of the rim rub on the tie rods. simple fix. i just popped the weights off. the wheel does not feel out of balance while driving. if it does i'll use the stick on weights and place them closer to the centerline of the wheel.

When I had my wheels balanced, I had them use tape weights on the inside. They don't interfere at all.

Please be careful when buying these rims from Rednck trailer supply!!!!! The center hub hole on these rims is 4.90 inches
The factory rims are 4.75 inches. If you don't cut filler adapters for this hub gap You run the risk of shearing off the studs!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily have a machine shop at work.Also you have to use the .50 inset,with3 1/2 inch backspace to clear the tie rod ends.Hope this helps all the 3/4 ton hub'ers.Look at the wheel mounted on the truck and you'll see what I mean.You have to make the picture FULL Screen to see the hub Gap

The trailer rims that were discussed before do not require a spacer and they are not hub centric. The rim is not supported by the hub at the hole, even with the originals.

I found some rims similar off a Ford van. They fit fine and dandy.

I drug this old thread back up to let ya'll know that this setup with the 16x6 wheels and LT235/85R16 tires works great on my daughter's truck. I just used the matching trailer hubcaps and applied the red CHEVROLET letters.

As an added bonus, it steers MUCH easier than it did with the 15" 60 series tires that were on the original rims. The wheels and tires were a birthday present and I put them after the kid went inside for the evening. In the manner of a high school girl, she just jumped in the truck in the morning and went to school without noticing a thing. She called when she got there and asked if I had installed power steering! Kids...

The site I used is no longer available but I ordered the 16 x 6, 8 lug wheels (A-17-153-65), and was several options that might work.
The price was $62.75 per wheel.
I ordered 5 so I could have a side mounted full size spare.

Shipping was $89 dollars and only took the 2 days to deliver to my door step.
Total price was $406.14 which I thought was good compared to other options.
The wheel came in black gloss which is what I wanted and looked very similar to stock split rims

Best part is that this wheel has 3.5 backspacing which clears tie rods with out spacers needed, barely.

The tire I ended up using was a Mesa A/P LT 235/85R16

The tire shop seemed to have trouble balancing the wheels but finally got them done.

After near 10 years I have finally driven my truck on the road to see how it would handle. And the verdict is...Good. No noticeable problems with the handling, that's not attributed to being just an old truck.

Redneck Trailer Has the trailer wheels as well. I purchased my rims there fairly reasonable. There catalog has lots of info as well. Have fun and good luck
