After doing a ring and pinion change on my 48 1 ton GMC I am now looking at the speedometer which never has worked right since I purchased the truck. I have contacted a couple of shops inquiring about re building my existing speedo, have a general estimate back from onefor $165-225. My question is to the folks that have purchased re-pop speedometers, (which I can get for $140 and up,) where did you get it ,cost and are you happy with it? Are any reproductions made here in the USA or all from...C

What do you mean by your current speedo has never worked right? What is it doing or not doing? Do you have a good speedo cable installed?

Dolphin, Auto Meter, Classic, all work good and you calibrate most by simply driving a measured distance and pushing a button. I haven't bought a GPS speedometer yet but did make a cradle for my Garmin in my old 37 Buick. I like the fact that it's always correct regardless of gears or tires, shows the posted speed limit and as a last resort can even be used as a GPS.

Yes I have a good cable, when I reverse the dial turns counter clockwise to about 80, going forward it will go up to about 15mph and then very slowly move up to about 40-45. I know it probably needs to be cleaned, some parts replaced, ect, ect. What I was hoping for was info on speedo shops for repair or experiences with reproductions such as are they worth the asking price, do they last ect.
