and see mention of plates attached to the cross sills. The text infers that these plates rest on the wooden spacer blocks, but they are not shown on the illustration. I just want to confirm that these "plates" are actually the pieces that slide onto the cross-sill channels, and that they must be drilled to allow the long 12" bolts to pass through the bedwood, cross sill, plate, spacer block and frame. Usually they have a slot running diagonally across the plate so you've got some adjustment by moving the plate back and forth to line it up. You can even reverse the plate if you need to to line everything up for the bolt. If yours aren't drilled, I'd really recommend you get everything lined up perfectly (bed board, cross sill, plate, pad and block) before you mark the spot to drill the hole in the plate. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,190 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,190 | If you don't want to drill through the wood you can put in a shorter bolt just through the plate. I did that then welded the plates to the cross members. Don't weld till you get them in place and lined up. I did all the mounting bolts that way except the rears. It makes for a cleaner bed.
