A.D. = Anno Domini?

AD or, better, A-D = Advance-Design series of Chevrolet trucks = 1947 to 1955-first-series Chevrolet trucks. The GMC trucks during those years were called the New Design series of GMC trucks.

1946 trucks were sold into 1947, until the 1947 Advance-Design Chevrolet trucks were introduced.

47-55 is called the Advance Design series, like 55-59 is called the Task Force series [TF], GM advertising terms

A good friend of mine (most of the time) drives me crazy when he refers to all AD trucks as "first series" trucks and HIS trucks as Task Force. He is an ADist in my opinion and that is wrong! smile
