Thanks,

As to your brake question, there were two different brake systems in the light trucks in the year range you are asking about, Huck brakes 47 to 51 I think and Bendix brakes from 52 to 54, I may be wrong about the years, but if I am someone will correct the years. I am not aware of a "kit" which encompasses everything for either brake system. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | The Bendix change-over year was 1951 (for the 3100) , larger trucks changed over later. What year do you have? What parts do you want in the "kit". Most likely, the following separate "rebuild kits" are available (depending on year and size of true): - wheel cylinder (front and rear are different) - master cylinder - hold-down/install hardware (maybe) - drums (maybe) | | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 505 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 505 | Hi everyone, I'm going to tag along with this thread.... I've got a 1953 3100 and am currently working on replacing the entire braking system. I couldn't find an all encompassing kit, so I am getting all the pieces as the budget allows. My question is about the junction block and the hollow bolt that mate up to the master cylinder (mc). I see that chev's of the 40's sells the j block, but the hollow bolt on their site is for the rear j blocks that mate to the rear wheel cylinders. I've tried to be as thorough as possible, but have come up empty on the hollow bolt that mates to the mc. Does anyone know of a vendor that has that actual hollow bolt, or is this one of those things that we have to refurb and reuse? Here is a pic of what I'm talking about: MC J Block and Hollow Bolt I circled the J Block and Hollow Bolt, but the circle is kinda faint. From the pic, you can see that one brake line goes into the hollow bolt. This line crosses the truck and enters another j block on the right side. The other line goes into the mc j block and then up to the front left wheel. Anyways, any help in locating a source of supply or giving me the reuse news would be appreciated. All of the other pics in that folder are just for my use when rebuilding the system. OBTW, boy are those j blocks and line fittings fused together! Amazing what 60 years of weather and corrosion will do. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,418 ODSS Lawman | | ODSS Lawman Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,418 | Mike
That brass fitting is not a stock piece. Someone added that over the years I guess.
I'd suggest two options, assuming your keeping the single cylinder, you can replumb it as stock, or clean up and reuse the brass fitting.
We can use my truck as a template if you prefer option #1.

Based on the diagram from the factory assembly manual ( Assembly Manual Diagram ) I had assumed my configuration to be stock. If it isn't stock, or if there is another way to plumb it I'm interested to find out. The other issue for me is that I've already purchased the pre-bent brake lines.... So whatever I do, has to work with both big ticket items that I already have. Using your truck as a template would be cool. Do you have any pics that you can share? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 125 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 125 | Ok im back...lol I have a 49 3100. I have obtained the shoes, rubber lines and hardware rebuild kit. The only thing left is new wheel cylinders... Are the front and back the same? seems pricing is different between the two on some sites. Anybody know the cheapest place to buy them?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Probably the best thing to do is get together and have a look. Let's see what works best.
The front and rear wheel cylinders are different. The brake lines attach to the rear cylinders straight in and the fronts are angled to help out the rubber lines in steering.
