found a couple of nice 235 motors. They are from 55 & 57 chevys. I want to put it in my 50 to replace the 216. Does it matter if they are from a vehicle with an automatic. My setup is a four speed.???

If it is from an automatic setup, you will need to install a pilot bushing in the4 crankshaft. Normally one would put a new one in as part of the job. I guess I would ask the question, were all the crankshafts bored for the bushing?

All the 1954 and later cranks I have seen are bored for a pilot bushing.

Besides that bushing, you'll need to address the longer and lower water pump pulley on the later 50s 235s. There is an adapter you can install that allows you to use the 216 type water pump or you can get a shortened water pump. However that shortened pump, will put the fan to low, so you should check out the adapter. Seen them on Ebay, search 235 water pump, should do it.
Compare the fans/water pump loccations on both motors you'll see the issue.
