The truck is local and the owner is asking $3000. It's a 1966 C10. Tires look to be almost new, very original. I am on my way to look at it. I think it should have a 250 in it, although a 292 would be great. I will look at the normal things and take it for a ride, etc. Wanted to see what you folks thought?

Here's some pics. What do you think?

Hard to judge a book by the cover, but it's a nice cover.

I had to pass on it. Too much for the $$ If it was a 292, that would be a better value. They went from 3K to 2K and I offered 1K..

Awww Shucks! I paid $1400 for my 1965 C10 stepside and it wasn't even road worthy. Not even close to it. It is all original however and unmolested. Just missing the seat. The $2000 sounds tempting if it was a running and driving truck.

Easy come, easy go. I marvel sometimes at what things are worth.

A long stepper... looks to be pretty complete. I'd have to agree with Lugnutz, $2,000 would be a fair price.

Prices are going up on the 60-66's.

I was looking recently at a truck to swap my drivetrain in to. Even for a pile of junk they want $1500. Johns right, the prices keep climbing

Yea, well the truck is still for sale. It's a local truck. Current owner bought it over a year ago and basically just parked it in a VERY over packed garage. She paid 2700 for it and she offered it to me for 2000. I came back with $1000 so we'll see. IF it had a 292, I would jump on it, but it has a 250 with unknown mileage and history. There's a hole in the original gas tank behind seat, both doors are shot. The window tracks are shot in the drivers door. The truck comes with 2 more doors (decent, but no glass or tracks) and a hood. The front of the hood that's on there has some damage. Of course the bed wood is way passed it and there's an aftermarket rear bumper on it. There's a few leaks around the engine and the steering has more play than it should (worn box). No radio, the heater controls are shot and the seat needs help. The truck does drive and the 3 on the tree seems to work fine. The clutch did feel ok with no weird noises. Overall, there does not appear to be lots of rust. In fact, it's pretty solid. The glass seals are all shot, but.....

There are trucks I would not buy at any price because of the work it takes. The time it takes, parts and money. This may be one. BUT each region of the country has it's value range due to the availability of non rust basically. We in the west have to have almost no rust to be satisfied. Some in the east only need a shadow of a truck unless they want to pay $1800 extra to ship from left to right....and that's with a truck they can only see in pictures. Vehicles are 50% worse in person. Pictures always look better. She may just call you back and say $1500. What's wrong with a 250? If it runs with oil in it and no smoke and has in-spec compression, it's a good motor? My brother used to take a truck gently up against a telephone pole and release the clutch to see if it slips or truck dies...and sometimes hear a motor knock too. (Just idling forward of course.) He was born at home though. ohwell

I put a $14,000.00 drivetrain into a $300 pickup. It's in the eye of the beholder.

big_eek Here in the wild west you'd get lynched for that..

Folks like your brother are why nobody drives my vehicles until after their money is in my pocket.

I've done it to my own vehicles, it's just putting a load on it. Does not hurt anything at idle.

I don't have a photo account or anything john. I can email or text but that's about it.

Never done the tree stump clutch test, I isially put em in second and see if it moves without slipping.

Here's an example of some SC stuff. I went to see this 1965 C10 1/2T SBFS . He's asking $1500 with no title, no engine, no tranny and lousy photos to judge it by until I go see it. I asked if $800 might be wasting his time and he said I should plan on $1000. I went to see it anyway. The pics look much better than it does in person.
It'd be a really nice parts truck.
The GOOD: Nice bed. Nice original trim, VERY nice aluminum grill, sail panels were nice, Custom steering column and horn ring, stainless windshield trim. Six lug old school wheels if you liked them.
The BAD: Cab has LOTS of rot including BIG holes around the windshield and . Hood was awful. No drive train. Doors needed LOTS of work.

It was basically a $500 truck for someone wanting to make it a driver but it'd be a tremendous amount of work. I think its an $800 DONOR truck for the right person who wants all the nice "EXTRAS" and then crush the cab and sell the rolling frame.

I passed and told him that he had a parts truck with nice parts for the right person. He seemed to think it was still worth over $1000.

The big thing for me is NO TITLE!!!! Lots of red tape and $$$ to get one if you ever do. A truck with no title would be considered a parts truck. Therefore your $500 estimate is good because you saw it. It barely seems to have $500 worth of parts according to your description. 6 lug clip wheels are worth more than you think in many parts of the U.S.

I think the wheels on that truck were aluminum "turbine" wheels.

In my parts of oregon people are wanting around 2-3k for c10's that have sat for 13 years. And the only time you see them around here for under a grand is when the ENTIRE body is SHOT and the motor has 200,000 on it. lol TJ

Many folks would pass on the bed simply because it has 50 trim holes in it.

Those aluminum turbine wheels are a nightmare to polish back up... they eat buffing wheels due to all the sharp edges.

If it drives $2,000 would be a fair price in the Northeast...not many of these beauties up here.
