on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 293 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 293 | In my 66 Suburban, I have the 292 motor with the smog pump and system. I need to rebuild my carburetor, but I am not sure if I have the correct carb or not. According to the 66 Shop Manual, there is a different carb for the non smog motor (7024009) and for the smog motor (7036009). My carb does not have a metal tag on it with the part number on it. Is there a way to identify my carb and does anyone know what the difference is between the 2 carbs, as far as a rebuild kit is concerned? Thank you for your help. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 2,951 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 2,951 | I had a carb decoding question once and fellow Stovebolter CARBKING was very helpful. Currently he is not set up to get PMs but here's a LINK to his CONTACT PAGE so you can ask him for help. I think he will know. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | I agree Carb king will have the answer. He also sells kits. They probably use the same kit. The difference is in the jeting & carb kits don't have new jets anymore. It is probably a California truck. The other states didn't use that system until 68. Or the engine was replaced with a newer engine at one time. Is it a Roch. model B carb or a Monojet. If it is a MJ the number is stamed on the side of the bowl section.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Bulletin #9C-3003T
Differences:
#7024009 ------- #7036009
7008672 --------- 7008671 --- main jet 7025554 --------- 7025554 --- power valve 7002896 --------- 7002896 --- power piston spring 701002 ----------- 7010002 --- power piston assembly
{ #7027093, intake air bleed valve assembly (A.I.R.) } only
It appears all the other parts are the same, jetting is one size leaner on the A.I.R. carb and possibly the power piston assembly, the catalog could have a typo on the numbers.
Over haul kit number listed (November 1971) #7016456
Hope this helps.

Obviously there is a difference inside between the two, now I just have to figure out if I have the one I'm supposed to have. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 568 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 568 | There is a shop in town that does old carbs. I can explain it to you, I can't understand it for you.

Go with the best looking and most complete and you should be just fine.
