I have a 50 one ton panel. Does any one make the step pad for these

On my running board it has one square hole where the pad goes, you think that would work

The square hole is used on pickups and is just an open hole on panels and Suburbans.

Is there one hole or are there two holes for the running-board to bed splash-apron that is not needed on panel body trucks?

Only the one on my 1/2 ton Suburban.

I'm lost here guys or I misunderstand.
What does the holes that hold the splash apron do with bolting down the step pad, which the PO asked about, which is located under/at the door handle? ...been a long day.

I almost agree with you, Alvin. But, you assume the hole being referred-to is under the door handle (I also assume that it is somewhere under the door handle, on the step-surface of the running board). We do not know where the hole is in the original poster's truck's running board.

It would be nice to see a photo of the hole that is being referred-to by the original poster.

Otherwise, we are replying-blind.

Here is an image of a 47-55 running board.
A picture is worth a thousand words/posts: the square hole (one square hole) is shown (the hole referred-to by Cletis and the original poster). The other three round holes are on the top edge/lip. Jim Carter sells 6 rubber plugs for filling those round bed-to-fender apron holes that is unneeded on a panel-body truck.

My pickup is apart - is the square hole also used with the bed apron?

To answer the original poster, the square hole is not under the door opening, so it would not be used for a step plate. The step plate requires drilling holes nearer the forward surface of the running board (the reproductions step plates that I have bought do not have a hole-drilling pattern/template).

I never noticed any holes on my 54 panel truck running boards. But then again, I really never looked.
I can see that the upper three holes would be used for the pickup truck bed apron.
But I can't see the lower single square hole, being used for the Step Plate. It's to far back on the board.
Is the lower single square hole used for something else? Other than the anti-slip step plate.

I have a set of NOS step plates and the instructions for installation show the layout and drill requirements, there are no existing holes in the described location. The square hole is for the filler support brace that goes behind the filler panel.

6" From the rear edge of the door the is where the step is placed, the six holes are measured from that starting placement.

the hole is about a foot away from the door towards the rear, strange that a hole would be on the running board and not be used.

Perhaps not weird when you consider a punch press and dies set-up for production efficiencies. In the general scheme of things that small hole may not have been worth additional or different tooling. Production levels for many of the AD years exceeded 300,000 units.

Thanks Brad and Tim for your contribution. I have got pickup running boards on my panel and plugged the holes. I was planning to check the assembly manual to see that the lone square hole is for......At first glance I thought it may be to attach a rod to hold a spare tire on a pickup but I've not had the daylight hours to check in to stuff. Heck, I'm just always curious!!
