Where is a good source for brake parts for my 48 2 ton? Looking for a master cylinder kit to start with.

NAPA auto parts should have everything you need, if it is not in stock they can get it in a couple of days. The wheel cylinder rebuild kit for the rear wheels (1 1/2" bore) is #37,I just picked up wheel cylinder kits and a master cylinder kit from them for 1940 1 1/2 ton.

My expierence with self-rebuild of brake parts on these old trucks, went terribly bad. I rebuilt some of the wheel cylinders and the MC myself. I wound up having to remove all those big wheels and tires, drums and axels twice. The MC and the WC's failed. I bought new wheel cyls and a new master cylinder. Now, no problems. I got them all at a reasonable price at NAPA and Rockauto. This was a 57 GMC 2 1/2 ton with 8 wheel cylinders.

I too have had reasonably good luck with NAPA. I had to do most of the part number research myself but they wound up having access to new wheel cylinders both front & rear for my '46 2Ton. I can't attest to the master cylinder kits, though, as I was lucky enough not to need one.

Make certain that you inspect the cylinder bore for rust pitting before you spend money on a rebuild kit. Years of non-use tends to create a lot of condensation in the MC cinder wall. Pitting will result in leaks.

HI ,Napa online can be a problem child ,Here is a trick for the Napa to find parts for your truck .
1 - put in search box master cylinder
2 - do not put any info to what kind of vehicle your looking for click search .
3- now it will be a new page showing master cylinders now look for medium to heavy duty trucks in the menu on the left ,then the make ,and then the year .
Now you should see the master cylinder listed for your truck it should say one and a quarter inch bore same as my 48 2 ton Part Number: UP 33 $20.70 /ea rebuild kit only available

I changed mine to a one and a quarter inch bore dual circuit master cyl. a 7" dual diaphragm booster ,great brakes but it needs a vacuum holding tank and check valve put into the system .
